아름지기 기획전 〈가가례家家禮: 집집마다 다른 제례의 풍경〉 협력·참여 가가례家家禮: 집집마다 다른 제례의 풍경 (Ancestral Rites for Modern Times)

2018 아름지기 기획전 《가가례 家家禮: 집집마다 다른 제례의 풍경》은 변화하는 현대의 생활 방식 속에서 제사의 본질과 형식을 새롭게 조명하는 전시다. 전통 제례의 의미를 바탕으로 현대인의 삶에 맞는 다양한 제사 상차림과 공예·디자인의 해석을 함께 제시하며, 공동체적 가치와 문화적 지속성을 동시대의 시선으로 모색한다. 온지음 맛공방은 검약을 중시했던 퇴계 이황의 삶과 유훈을 바탕으로, 주자가례의 형식을 따르되 탕 5종을 더한 절제된 구성의 불천위 제사상을 재현하였다. 또한, 명재 윤증의 유계를 바탕으로 떡·유밀과·전 등을 배제하고 최소한의 제물로 구성한 간소하고 엄정한 제사상을 재현하여, 사치와 장식을 배제하고 본질적 예를 중시한 유가 제례 문화의 정신을 음식으로 드러내고자 하였다. 그 외에도 현대 주거 환경과 생활 방식에 맞게 간소화한 제사 상차림을 제안하며, 소통과 나눔, 절제의 미학을 반영한 동시대적 제례 문화를 음식으로 재구성하였다.

Arumjigi’s 2018 exhibition "Ancestral Rites for Modern Times" reexamines the essence and forms of ancestral rites amid changing contemporary lifestyles. Grounded in the meaning of traditional rites, the exhibition presents a range of ritual table settings suited to life today alongside interpretations in craft and design, exploring communal values and cultural continuity from a contemporary perspective.Drawing on the life and final instructions of Toegye Yi Hwang, who placed great importance on frugality, Onjium Food Studio recreated a restrained table setting for bulcheonwi, ancestral rites maintained in perpetuity for an honoured ancestor. The arrangement follows the forms prescribed in Zhu Xi’s Family Rituals, with the addition of five varieties of soup. The studio also recreated a simple, rigorously ordered ritual table based on the instructions left by Myeongjae Yun Jeung, using a minimal selection of offerings and omitting rice cakes, yumilgwa (fried sweets made with flour and honey), and jeon (pan-fried dishes). Through food, these recreations express the spirit of Confucian ritual culture, which eschewed luxury and ornament in favour of the essential meaning of ritual propriety. The studio also proposed simplified ritual table settings adapted to contemporary homes and lifestyles, reimagining ancestral rites through food to embody communication, sharing, and an aesthetic of restraint.
