우리가 흔히 ‘한복’이라 하면 단아한 조선 후기의 예복 양식을 떠올리지만, 한복은 시대마다 서로 다른 가치관과 미학을 담으며 끊임없이 변화해 온 옷이다. 기마민족의 역동적인 이부 양식에서부터 고려 귀족 문화의 화려하고 우아한 양식, 그리고 유교 국가 조선이 구현한 절제와 품격의 미학에 이르기까지 한복은 늘 시대와 함께 새로운 얼굴을 드러내 왔다. 오는 10월 출간되는 온지음 옷공방의 신간 『자연을 여미다』는 10여 년간 이어온 연구와 창작의 성과를 집약해, 한복을 ‘자연을 여민 옷’이라는 관점에서 다시 바라본다. 과거의 문화유산에 머무르지 않고 오늘의 감각 속에서 새롭게 해석될 수 있는 한복의 가능성을 탐구하며, 한국인의 정신세계와 미적 감각을 담은 다양한 작품과 이야기를 통해 한복의 깊은 매력을 전한다.
The word hanbok often brings to mind the understated elegance of formal dress from the late Joseon period. Yet hanbok has continually evolved, reflecting the values and aesthetics of each era. From the dynamic two-piece garments of horse-riding peoples to the rich, graceful dress of Goryeo’s aristocracy and the restraint and refinement of Confucian Joseon, hanbok has taken on new forms with the changing times. Due to be published in October, Weaving in Nature, the new book from Onjium’s Clothing Studio, brings together more than a decade of research and creative practice. It offers a fresh perspective on hanbok as clothing that gathers nature into its folds. Through a diverse collection of works and the stories behind them, the book explores how hanbok can be reinterpreted through contemporary sensibilities, revealing its enduring appeal as an expression of Korean ways of thinking and seeing beauty.
