샌프란시스코 아시아미술관 〈COUTURE KOREA 우리의 옷, 한복〉 참여 Couture Korea

《Couture Korea》는 조선시대 복식의 역사적 전통과 이를 현대적으로 재해석한 동시대 패션을 함께 조망하는 전시로, 샌프란시스코 아시아 미술관(Asian Art Museum of San Francisco)과 재단법인 아름지기가 공동 기획하였다. 120여 점의 작품을 통해 복식이 사회적 가치와 문화적 정체성을 반영해 온 매개임을 보여주며, 한국 패션이 세계 무대에서 새롭게 주목받는 흐름 속에서 전통과 현대의 연결 가능성을 탐구한다.온지음 옷공방은 십여 년간 축적해 온 전통 복식 연구를 바탕으로 조선시대 전통 복식과 이를 현대적으로 재해석한 작품을 함께 선보이며, 한복이 지닌 보편적 미감과 동시대적 가능성을 세계와 공유하고자 하였다. 이번 전시는 미국 주요 미술관에서 장기간 개최된 최초의 한국 패션 전시 중 하나로, 전통 복식 문화가 글로벌 담론 속에서 새롭게 이해되고 확장될 수 있는 계기를 마련한다.

"Couture Korea", jointly organised by the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and the Arumjigi Foundation, brings together the historical traditions of Joseon dynasty dress and contemporary fashion that reinterprets this heritage. Through more than 120 works, the exhibition shows how dress has served as a medium for expressing social values and cultural identity. Against a backdrop of growing international interest in Korean fashion, it explores the possibilities for connecting tradition and the contemporary.Drawing on more than a decade of research into traditional dress, Onjium Clothing Studio presented Joseon dynasty attire alongside works that reinterpret it for the present, seeking to share the universal aesthetic appeal and contemporary potential of hanbok with an international audience. As one of the first exhibitions of Korean fashion to run for an extended period at a major American museum, Couture Korea creates an opportunity for traditional Korean dress culture to be understood anew and find broader resonance within global discourse.
