집공방이 디자인한 '돈'은 고려시대 정자나 누각 등에서 사용되었던 등받이와 팔걸이가 없는 이동식 좌구를 현대적으로 재해석한 작품이다. 고려시대에는 청자로도 제작되었던 돈을 스틸 소재로 풀어내어 현대적인 조형미를 구현하였다. 전통 돈에 주로 사용되던 화문이나 당초무늬 대신, 옷공방이 1302년 아미타불복장물 유물을 바탕으로 개발한 마름무늬를 적용하였다. 고려시대 옷감에서 추출한 이 문양은 아름다운 실루엣을 표현하는 동시에 내구성과 안정성을 함께 확보하는 구조적 요소로 기능한다.
Designed by the Housing Studio, Don is a contemporary reinterpretation of a portable seat without a backrest or armrests, used in pavilions and open halls during the Goryeo period. Reimagining a form that was also made in celadon, the studio chose steel to give the piece a contemporary sculptural presence.In place of the floral or scrolling vine motifs commonly found on traditional don, the design features a diamond pattern developed by the Clothing Studio from textiles discovered among the votive objects enshrined within an Amitabha Buddha statue dated 1302. Drawn from Goryeo-period fabric, the pattern defines the piece’s distinctive silhouette while serving a structural role that ensures durability and stability.
