A sparse weave fabric called ra in Korean, which was made by using four warp threads crossing each other to impart the feeling of a net, was widely used from the Three Kingdoms to Joseon periods. Weaving technique advanced greatly in the Goryeo period, allowing for the weaving of very delicate and fine ra silk fabric. Ra silk fabric was so important in international trade that it became considered the representative fabric of Goryeo. In reference to the ra silk fabric of Goryeo, modern versions are reproduced with boiled silk and raw silk yarns.
