Clothing Studio is participating in a project to develop premium functional hanbok fabrics and establish a sustainable supply chain, in collaboration with Hyosung, the Korea Silk Research Institute, the Korea Institute of Smart Textile Processing and Chungnam National University. The project forms part of a research program for innovation and growth in traditional culture, jointly promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and administered by the National Research Foundation of Korea.Drawing on research into traditional Korean textiles, the project has developed premium silk hanbok fabrics that express Korean aesthetics, alongside polyester alternatives that reproduce the texture and appearance of silk while offering enhanced functionality. It has also introduced digitally printed hanbok fabrics inspired by traditional patterns and a range of garments made from these materials, including traditional hanbok and contemporary designs for everyday and ceremonial wear. Alongside this development, the project is building a supply chain to ensure the ongoing availability of materials, from yarn to finished fabric.By modernizing traditional textile techniques and improving both the quality and accessibility of hanbok fabrics, the project explores new possibilities for industry rooted in traditional culture. It aims to support the global reach of Korean products and strengthen national competitiveness through Korea’s cultural heritage.
