Clothing Studio and Housing Studio contributed textile elements and gallery seating to the renewal of the Calligraphy and Painting Gallery on the second floor of the National Museum of Korea’s Permanent Exhibition Hall. The Clothing Studio created fabric screens to distinguish the exhibition areas from the rest spaces. Made from eunjosa(은조사) silk dyed an ink-black shade, the screens establish gentle boundaries without fully obscuring the spaces beyond, creating moments of openness along the visitor route. The studio also lined selected gallery walls with paper-backed suksu(숙수), a silk fabric with a diamond pattern. Used behind Jeong Seon(정선)’s 'Bakyeon Falls(박연폭포)' and Jo Yeong-seok(조영석)’s Visiting a 'Friend through the Snow', the fabric’s pattern was rendered in deep, restrained tones, allowing the paintings to emerge naturally within the space. The Housing Studio designed two types of benches where visitors can pause and contemplate the works. Named Mokbangseok(목방석) and Mokboryo(목보료), they draw on the bangseok(방석) and boryo(보료)—cushions and padded floor mats used for seated living during the Joseon period—translating their forms into raised seating suited to a contemporary gallery.Mokbangseok(목방석) accommodates several visitors while preserving a sense of individual seats and a comfortable distance between them. Mokboryo(목보료) reinterprets the forms of traditional long pillows and backrests, offering a place to rest along the exhibition route. The seats incorporate ssangsamo(쌍사모), a paired moulding profile used in traditional wooden window latticework, lending visual lightness and an airy quality. Crafted from solid wood and finished with dark ottchil(옻칠) lacquer, both designs convey the weight and solidity of traditional Korean furniture.
