Housing Studioand Design Dept. participated as a collaborating institution in 'Doublejae (齋),' a hanok project by Younhyun Trading(윤현상재) and Nostalgia. With Younhyun Trading(윤현상재) leading the overall spatial planning, the Housing Studio helped carry the concept through to the architectural details, while the Design Dept. enriched the space with traditional materials and everyday objects, adding depth to its Korean aesthetics and cultural experience.Drawing on an understanding of traditional construction methods and proportions, the Housing Studio refined individual elements and proposed new features that clarified the overall vision while respecting the existing spatial concept. One example is the kkotdam(꽃담), a decorative patterned wall, seen through the living room window. The character ssang (雙), meaning 'double,' was composed in the style of munjado(문자도), traditional pictorial calligraphy, to express the meaning of Doublejae’s name. Younhyun Trading’s signature 'Lungo' tiles brought traditional forms together with contemporary materials. The Design Dept. arranged its Ra(라) Cushions, lacquered mats laminated with Ra fabric, and Boryo(보료) Floor Cushions according to the uses of each space, introducing delicate textures and everyday practicality. Developed specifically for Doublejae, wool-silk screens featuring the Five Gentlemen motif and Chupo(추포) textile screens drew on fabrics and making techniques inspired by historical objects, creating a warm and elegant atmosphere. A three-legged stand, Sambal(삼발이), inspired by the murals of Muyongchong(무용총), a Goguryeo(고구려) tomb, was placed on the wooden veranda, adding structural beauty and a sense of craftsmanship. From architectural structure and proportions to textiles and everyday objects, the project brought each element into harmony, allowing guests to experience the aesthetics and practical qualities of Korean culture throughout their stay.
