Design Dept. collaborated with Kooksoondang to design the Baekseju booth at the 2024 Seoul Design Festival. The project translated the colors and material qualities of traditional Korean brewing into spatial design, inviting visitors to experience Baekseju’s brand identity and Korean aesthetics. The booth’s deep brown palette drew on the colors that develop during fermentation and the earthy qualities of soil. Walls proportioned for floor seating in a hanok were finished with lacquered hanji, giving the space a sense of depth. Inside, a sarangbang(사랑방), a traditional reception room, featured hanji in the subtle tones of the grain residue left after fermentation, alongside traditional floor paper, creating a calm and grounded atmosphere. A canopy recalling hanok eaves and a wooden veranda brought the spatial qualities of traditional architecture together with the character of Korean traditional liquor.Designed for disassembly and reassembly, the booth could be reused after the exhibition. This approach connected the structural principles of traditional architecture with a more sustainable approach to exhibition design.Design Dept. dismantled and reassembled the Baekseju booth originally presented at the 2024 Seoul Design Festival, presenting it again at the Seoul Living Design Fair in Magok. Drawing on the structural principles of traditional architecture, the booth was designed to be moved and reinstalled, preserving the same spatial experience across different exhibition settings.
