Clothing Studio has participated in the Arumjigi Foundation’s 'Palace Hall Restoration and Interior Furnishings Reproduction' project, which seeks to bring palace spaces back to life. As part of this effort to restore their original functions and context, the studio recreated hongyangsan(홍양산), a red ceremonial parasol, and cheongseon(청선), a blue ceremonial fan, for Sajeongjeon(사정전) Hall at Gyeongbokgung Palace(경복궁).Before production, the studio examined objects firsthand in the collection of the Royal Portrait Museum and conducted research into historical artefacts. It also consulted Joseon-era royal protocols and records, including the 'Pure Ancestor Sunjo and Queen Sunwon's Garye Dogam Uigwe(순조순원왕후가례도감의궤)' and the 'Introductory Remarks on National Rituals(국조오례서례)', to establish the historical basis for the objects’ forms, structures, colors and decorative details. Each element, from the pleating and finishing to the decorative cord arrangements, braided cords and tassels, was carefully examined to reflect traditional methods of making. The work explored how objects documented in historical records could once again serve their purpose within palace interiors, giving renewed expression to the ceremonial order and aesthetics of these spaces.
