Housing Studio designed 'Inhyewon(인혜원)', a small hanok in the second-floor courtyard of the religious building, as part of the construction of Wonnam Temple(원남교당), a Won Buddhist temple. Conceived as a symbolic space honoring a benefactor, the project drew on traditional hanok forms to create an open, adaptable setting for religious and cultural activities in the city.Within approximately 40 square meters, the design brings together an entrance hall, a central wooden-floored hall, a raised wooden platform and a narrow veranda. Movable windows and doors allow the space to accommodate Buddhist services, tea gatherings and weddings. The design also meets contemporary requirements for earthquake resistance, fire safety, building services and insulation. Traditional elements, including a coffered ceiling, built-in storage alcoves and exposed rafters, help integrate and conceal modern systems, creating a refined interior.Characters and motifs symbolizing the benefactor were incorporated into the gables and decorative roof-end tiles, expressing the significance of the place. Positioned to face Daegakjeon(대각전) Hall, the hanok also establishes a relationship with the circle that symbolizes Won Buddhism. Within its modest scale, Inhyewon brings together symbolic meaning, practical function, traditional craftsmanship and modern technology.
