집공방은 옛 새문안 동네의 북서쪽에 자리한 1930년대 도시형 한옥을 리모델링하여, 한옥 유스호스텔과 전통문화체험관으로 새롭게 조성하였다. 본 프로젝트는 오랜 시간 훼손된 한옥을 정비하고, 역사적 가치를 보존하며, 근대 도시 한옥이 지닌 생활 구조와 골목의 풍경을 오늘의 방식으로 다시 연결하고자 기획되었다.돈의문 한옥 유스호스텔은 총 14채의 모듈화된 한옥으로 구성된다. 각각의 객실은 방과 부엌을 겸하는 마루, 화장실을 중심으로 이루어지며, 두 개의 객실이 하나의 마당을 중심으로 짝을 이룬다. 한옥들은 골목을 따라 서로 연결되며 여러 채가 모여 하나의 군을 이루고, 이를 잇는 리셉션 공간과 골목은 전체를 하나의 집합적 건축으로 기능하게 한다. 본 프로젝트는 개별 한옥의 복원에 머무르지 않고, 도시형 한옥이 형성하던 골목과 마당, 이웃 간의 관계와 생활의 흐름까지 함께 복원하고자 한 사례이다.
Housing Studio renovated urban hanok dating from the 1930s in the northwestern part of the old Saemunan(새문안) neighbourhood, transforming them into a hanok youth hostel and a traditional culture experience center. The project sought to repair buildings that had deteriorated over time, preserve their historical value, and reconnect the living patterns and alleyways of these early modern urban homes with contemporary life.'The Donuimun Hanok Youth Hostel(돈의문 한옥 유스호스텔)' comprises 14 hanok arranged in a modular layout. Each guest unit includes a bedroom, a wooden-floored living area that also serves as a kitchen, and a bathroom. Two units are paired around a shared courtyard. Connected by alleyways, the hanok form clusters, while the reception area and connecting lanes bring the entire complex together as a collective architectural whole. The project extends beyond restoring individual hanok to recover the alleyways, courtyards, relationships between neighbors and rhythms of daily life that once shaped these urban homes.
