Small Sculpture, held at Younhyun’s Space B-E Gallery, begins by reconsidering the small architectural elements of everyday life through an artistic lens. Within systems of standardisation driven by function and production efficiency, the distinctive character and sensory qualities of objects have gradually faded. By granting these familiar elements autonomy as sculptural forms, the exhibition explores the latent aesthetics and possibilities of the small components that shape our spaces. In response to this approach, Onjium Housing Studio takes a fresh look at the sculptural qualities and architectural sensibility embodied in traditional hanok door and window hardware. The studio presents a selection of sixteen types of hardware, cast using traditional production methods. Door rings, locks, hinges, and decorative fittings—small elements used repeatedly in daily life—reveal the subtle character and spatial rhythms of hanok through restrained forms and surfaces that retain traces of the maker’s hand. The presentation invites us to reconsider traditional hardware beyond its functional role, recognising each piece as a sculptural element within the aesthetic order of architecture.Onjium Housing Studio’s work brings renewed attention to the value of traditional architectural elements that are gradually being forgotten, suggesting how even a single small fitting can transform the character of a space.
